Piazza del Gesù Nuovo

Piazza del Gesù Nuovo is one of the most important squares in the historic center of Naples.

The square, which revolves around the monumental obelisk of the Immaculate Conception, owes its name to the church of the same name there and is located on the lower decumanus. Its central position with respect to the historic city center places it within walking distance of other important historical places, such as via Toledo and piazza Dante, piazza Monteoliveto and piazza San Domenico Maggiore.

On the square rise two of the most important churches of the city respectively: the church of Gesù Nuovo and the Monastery of Santa Chiara. The first has in its fifteenth-century facade with diamond-tipped ashlar in Piperine stone the most typical example of Neapolitan Baroque. The second, which instead represents the largest Gothic-style church in the city, has the official burial ground of the Bourbons, where the kings of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies rest, from Ferdinand to Francesco II.

The Church of the Gesù is one of the best known and most popular, also for the presence of the body of the holy doctor, San Giuseppe Moscati, who is buried there. In addition, his medical office and a museum with photographs and objects that belonged to him have been rebuilt inside the church.

Cappella Sansevero

The Sansevero chapel (also known as the church of Santa Maria della Pietà or Pietatella) is one of the most important museums in Naples. Located near Piazza San Domenico Maggiore, this church, now deconsecrated, is adjacent to the family palace of the princes of Sansevero, separated from it by an alley once surmounted by a suspension bridge that allowed family members to access the place privately. of worship.

The chapel houses masterpieces such as the Veiled Christ by Giuseppe Sanmartino, known throughout the world for its marble veil that almost rests on the dead Christ. It also houses numerous other works of fine workmanship or unusual, such as the anatomical machines, two totally stripped bodies where it is possible to observe, in great detail, the entire circulatory system.

San Gregorio Armeno

San Gregorio Armeno is a street known all over the world as the exhibition center of the craft shops located here that now all year round make figurines for nativity scenes, both canonical and original (usually every year the most eccentric artisans make figurines with the features of characters of stringent topicality that perhaps stood out positively or negatively during the year).

The actual exhibitions begin around the Christmas holidays, usually from the beginning of November to January 6.

MANN

The National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN) is an Italian state museum. By virtue of its rich and valuable heritage of works of art and artifacts, arranged over an exhibition area of 12,650 m², it is considered one of the most important archaeological museums in the world, if not the most important for Roman art.

The museum consists of private collections acquired or donated to the city over the centuries, such as the Borgia, Santangelo, Stevens, Spinelli collections. The main nuclei are three:

the Farnese collection: made up of finds from Rome and its surroundings and transferred to Naples in the 18th century;
